Well, someone did at some point, and I may agree or I may not it s always different value systems in dialogue.† (Baldessari Interview) Everyone has a preconceived view of the world around them for everything already the moment you were born. Based off of your sex, gender, religion, income, sexuality, culture, etc., everyone sees things differently through their own lenses, this is the idea of â€Å"Ways of Seeing† presented by John Berger. Expressionism is the art style where artists use their own personal and emotional experiences on to the canvas versus making art that has been influenced by their society. In a sense, Expressionism is very similar to Abstract art since the brushwork is very similar and that there is this idea of the subjects being a representation of something meaningful to the artist. Except that in Expressionism the subjects or the whole work of art itself represents an emotional time or experience for the artist. It’s not used for showing support to a cause or to bring attention to any kind of issue like most abstract work is. My main goal is to show you the difference in the ‘Way of Seeing’ from the artist point of view to the outside world vs how the outside world see’s the art. I am only focusing on Expressionist paintings here I will be making connections from the works of art to my goal.
